synonyms: The Police Service of Northern Ireland (Incorporating the Royal Ulster Constabulary) The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is the new name given to the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC). The change to the name of the RUC took effect on Sunday 4 November 2001.
