The NUS/USI was established in 1972 under a unique arrangement where both the British and Irish national student unions jointly organise in Northern Ireland to promote student unity across the sectarian divide. NUS/USI represents the interests of over 115,000 students in Northern Ireland and campaigns on their behalf in many different fields. It also provide an infrastructure which helps individual student unions to develop their own work through its research, training and development functions.
